Thousand Islands 2008
So, the annual Thousand Islands family vacation has come and gone. It was a blast as usual. We had fun boating, tubing, swimming, singing, watching movies, reading stories, playing card games, fishing, and lots and lots of eating.
This year we had a projector, sound system, and movies on a pull down screen thanks to Tim. Cabin five had a nice big flat area there where the whole family could gather 'round. We watched Drillbit Taylor and an episode of MST3K about a Devil Fish.
Never let anyone tell you camping at Dewolf Point State Park isn't roughing it. /sarcasm.
We got this year's catastrophic event out of the way on day one as the Beasley's suffered a bearing failure on the right trailer wheel. The wheel came all the way off, passed the towing vehicle, and continued a couple hundred yards further up the road and into the woods. Noone was hurt. Some kind folk that lived nearby allowed us to use their lawn as a staging ground for the rescue and recovery effort.
Hart's Towing and Repair did an excellent job picking up the entire trailer and boat as one and bringing it in for repairs. The wrecker operator was a true grease monkey, visible yellow underwear, one eye and all. They welded on a new spindle and had the trailer and boat back in operation by Thursday I think.
Let the countdown begin to next year's Thousand Island vacation!
